THE ABC’S OF SALVATION

A

Acknowledge that you have sinned and turn to God.

Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Isaiah 53:6
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

James 2:10
10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

Romans 3:10-12
10 as it is written, " There is none righteous, not even one;
11 There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God;
12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one."

John 3:3
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Acts 4:12
12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved."

B

Believe in Jesus Christ.

Acts 16:31
31 and they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household."

Luke 5:32
32 "I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

Luke 13:3
3 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

Romans 2:4
4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

John 3:16
16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life”

John 20:31
31 but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Romans 10:17 (NASB77)
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Acts 10:43 (NASB77)
43 "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

C

Confess Jesus IS and AS Savior and Lord.

Romans 10:9 (NIV)
9 that if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved;

Romans 10:9 (NASB77)
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved;

1 John 4:15
15 whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Acts 19:18
18 Many also of those who had believed kept coming, confessing and disclosing their practices.

1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

HOW TO LIVE A CHRISTIAN LIFE

Rely on the Holy Spirit:

Ephesians 5:18
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

Acts 1:8
8 but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

Trust Jesus as Lord:

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Hebrews 2:13
13 and again, “I will put My trust in Him." And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me."

Pray without ceasing:

1 Thessalonians 5:17
17 pray without ceasing;

Luke 18:1 (NASB77)
1 Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart,

Search the Scriptures daily:

John 5:39
39 " You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me;

Acts 17:11
11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.

Attend public worship regularly:

Hebrews 10:25
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.

Psalm 50:5
5 "Gather My godly ones to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”

Give liberally without grudging:

2 Corinthians 9:7
7 Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Luke 6:38
38 "Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

Give attention to missions:

John 4:35-36
35 "Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
36 "Already he who reaps is receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for life eternal; that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

Matthew 28:19-20
19 " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Forget self and live for others:

Matthew 20:26-28
26 "It is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,
27 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

1 John 3:16
16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Witness to someone daily:

Acts 2:42
42 and they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
46 And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,
47 praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Keep growing in grace:

2 Peter 3:18
18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Ephesians 4:12-16
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ.
14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ,
16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Memorize a verse every day:

Psalm 119:11
11 Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee.

Daniel 12:3
3 "And those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

Always carry Scripture with you:

Titus 1:9
9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.

Philippians 2:16
16 holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may have cause to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.

MAN’S QUESTIONS, GOD’S ANSWERS

Is there a God?

Genesis 1:1
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Psalm 19:1
1 the heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

1 John 1:1
1 what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we beheld and our hands handled, concerning the Word of Life--

Am I accountable to God?

Romans 14:12
12 so then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Romans 2:1-5
1 Therefore you are without excuse, every man of you who passes judgment, for in that you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.

3 And do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment upon those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?
4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
5 but because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

Does He know all about me?

Hebrews 4:13
13 and there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Luke 16:15
15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.

Does He charge me with sin?

Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 3:10
10 as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one;

Will He punish sin?

Romans 6:23
23 for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 2:3
3 How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

Must I perish?

2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

John 3:16
16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life

Is He willing to save me?

10 "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

1 Timothy 1:15 (NASB77)
15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

Can I be saved now?

2 Corinthians 6:2
2 for He says, " At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you"; behold, now is "the acceptable time," behold, now is "the day of salvation"

John 1:12
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

Can I be saved just as I am?

37 " All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

Matthew 9:13
13 "But go and learn what this means, ' I desire compassion, and not sacrifice,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

Will I be assured of heaven?

John 14:2-3
2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

1 Thessalonians 4:17
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord.

OBJECTIONS ANSWERED

Not now, some other time:

2 Corinthians 6:2

2 for He says, " At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you"; behold, now is "the acceptable time," behold, now is "the day of salvation"

Hebrews 3:15
15 while it is said, " Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts, as when they provoked Me."

Proverbs 27:1
1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.

Luke 12:19-20
19 'And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry."'
20 "But God said to him, ' You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?'

I am too great a sinner:

Luke 19:10
10 "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."

1 Timothy 1:15
15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.

John 6:37
37 " All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

Hebrews 7:25
25 Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

I am doing the best I can:

Romans 3:19-20
19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may become accountable to God;
20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.

Romans 3:24
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;

Galatians 2:16
16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.

Too many hypocrites in the church:

Matthew 23:10
10 "And do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ.

John 21:22
22 Jesus •said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!"

Romans 14:12
12 so then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Romans 2:1-3
1 Therefore you are without excuse, every man of you who passes judgment, for in that you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.
2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.
3 And do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment upon those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?

Colossians 3:25
25 for he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.

I am a church member:

John 3:3
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, that no one should boast.

2 Timothy 1:9
9 who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

Titus 1:16
16 They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient, and worthless for any good deed.

Matthew 7:21-23
21 " Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
22 " Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'
23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'

Committed unpardonable sin:

John 6:37
37 " All that the Father gives Me shall come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

John 6:40
40 "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him, may have eternal life; and I Myself will raise him up on the last day."

John 6:47
47 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

Romans 10:13
13 for " Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved."

2 Peter 3:9
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

Believe I am good enough:

John 3:3-5
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nicodemus •said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?"
5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

24 "I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins"

Romans 6:23
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 3:22-23
22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

A loving God won’t condemn anyone:

Luke 13:3
3 "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

John 3:36
36 "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

Romans 2:4
4 or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

2 Peter 2:4
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;

2 Peter 2:6
6 and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly thereafter;

2 Peter 2:9

9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

John 3:18
18 " He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Mark 16:16
16 " He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Matthew 25:41
41 "Then He will also say to those on His left, ' Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

Matthew 25:46
46 "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

John 5:28-29
28 "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice,
29 and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

2 Thessalonians 2:7-9 (NASB77)
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
8 And then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
9 that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,

10 SUGGESTIONS FOR SHARING

1.    Be natural and pleasant.

2.    Listen to the others person’s questions.

3.    If possible, deal with the person alone, and in a quiet place.

4.    As much as possible, share with members of your own gender

5.    Place full confidence in God’s Word, not your own abilities.

6.    Present Christ, not yourself nor your church or ministry.

7.    Have the person you are sharing with read the Scripture verses themselves.

8.    Hold the conversation to the main point or rejecting the self-centered life and surrendering to the Christ-centered life. Don’t let it veer off topic. Above all, don’t be drawn into arguments.

9.    Ask for an immediate decision. If they don’t make a decision, ask if they’d like to learn more, and make sure to give a Gospel book.

10.  If the person receives  Christ, be sure to tell them how to continue in the Christian life (i.e. by finding a Bible-only, Jesus –only, Grace-only, and Faith-only based church) and whenever possible, follow up for  further development of their faith.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1 John 5:20
